NAME: PETROS HARALABOUS PISINOS
Date of Birth: October 19th, 1962
Place of birth: Zodia, Nicosia, CYPRUS
Ethnicity - Nationality: Greek Cypriot
At the age of twelve, Petros becomes a refugee in his own country when the Turks invaded the Greek island of Cyprus, on July 20th, 1974 and occupied 40% of the island. With his father taken as prisoner of war, no money, no clothes, no jobs and no help from anybody, Petros, his two brothers, one sister, his mother and two grandparents, struggled for a long time until his father was released from Turkey and return back to his family. 200,000 people were forced to leave their homes, their properties and their belongings because of the Turkish imperialism and barbarism. 1,600 people are still missing. May the ones who created the invasion answer to God and be punished eternally for the pain and misery they have cost. Who ever they may be and wherever they may be. Justice should be served.
The Turkish occupation continuous until today and the Turkish government shows no signs of returning the occupied territories to the rightful owners.
My mother’s visit to her own house.
$40.00 to buy her own picture, from her own occupied house, where she needed permission to enter and visit for a few minutes:
During the Summer of 2003, the Turkish government had finally allowed the Greek Cypriots to visit their homes and properties at the occupied territories for the first time. By the thousands the Greek Cypriots started visiting their houses and so my parents. They went to their little village by the name of Zodia and knocked at the door of their house. A Turkish lady answered the door and my parents introduced themselves and asked permission to see their house after 29 years. They entered the house, looked around for a few minutes and they realized that my family pictures were still hanging on the walls. My mother got pretty emotional during the whole visit but especially from the fact that her wedding pictures along with her four children’s pictures and her parents pictures were still on the walls. Just before my parents left the house, my mother asked the Turkish lady if she could have some of her pictures, to have and perish, as a memory. That is when the Turkish lady told my mother that she could have only one but she had to pay 40 dollars. Having no choice, my mother had to pay forty dollars, to buy her own picture, from her own occupied house.
“They” make a desert and they call it peace. “They” invade, destroy and occupy countries, they kill innocent men, women and children and they call it justice. The International community, for political reasons, has allowed this to happen and still to this day, allow this injustice to take place. Politicians all over the world, present themselves as religious persons working for peace and justice and allow such crimes not only to take place but continue until today. Shame on those who can do something but choose to do nothing.
